Gemotions

The aroma of burnt coffee hung heavy in the air. He had been up since before dawn, scrambling to meet the demands of his demanding clients. The stress was constant. The pressure never relented. The endless cycle of emails, calls, and meetings had him on edge. He needed to find a distraction from it all.

He had started clearing out his childhood home. In the attic, amongst the cobwebs and forgotten furniture, he found a box filled with his past. His mother had preserved every school assignment he'd ever completed. It was a collection of carefully written essays, drawings, and math tests, all lovingly organized and filed.

He sat cross-legged on the dusty floor, the sheer magnitude of the collection overwhelming him. He felt hollow, empty. He took a deep, ragged breath and just stared at the box.
